Bobby Fischer Film Trailer

Submitted by SonofPearl on Fri, 05/29/2009 at 11:07am.

We reported back in February that the first Bobby Fischer biopic 'Bobby Fischer Live', was in production.  Now a trailer for the film has been released by Amamdeus Pictures.

The whole project is very much the work of one man, Damian Chapa (pictured), who directs and stars and Fischer himself, despite having no real resemblance to the tortured chess genius.  An interview from 1963 with Fischer can be seen in the free video section here.

This is unlikely to be the only Fischer film produced now that the man himself has passed away.  Whether it is any good remains to be seen...

After watching the trailer, would you go to see the film?  Have your say in the comments.   Warning: Some Strong Language.

This is unreal. It's a disgrace!

I just searched around YouTube for 30 minutes trying to find the trailer for Bobby Fischer Live. I had seen this one, and it looked like a cheap homemade parody to me. When I found out it was the real trailer for the film, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

The roles are fictional! They are not factual!

They made this film to hogwash Fischer!

This film is a disgrace to the great mind of Bobby Fischer, the casting is horrible, the facts are wrong. It's even funded by people who hated Fischer more than he hated them. It's a disgrace, and it's 4.7 score on IMDB is fake! Anyone who knows just a little about chess will dismiss this as a waste of time.

Furthermore, the mustaches and wigs used for the film are horrendous. The actors bears no resemblance to their characters. It blows my mind that this was made.

It's funny, the film received a 4.7 score, with 15 votes from users. There's about 15 actors in the film. The only explanation why it is not 1 star is propably because the rated it 10 stars. It's mind-blowing.

Don't see it.

The trailer looks BAD.... amateur filmmaking. I think a story on Fischer deserves better.

CoolThis movie is groundbreaking its the first film made about Fischers life story. With his late in life statements about 9/11 an jews etc. no one will have the guts to make a big budget movie on him, this film will pave the way for a true hollywood production. The film trailer provides a insight to people that Bobby was not a true bad guy late in life just a vert sick man who cracked up an shows what a hard life he had an the odds he had to overcome to be world champion in chess. To compare it to searching for Bobby Fischer is unfair considering the funding for both  movies.I for one  thought the searching film just exploited Fischers name to sell that movie.

Many of you are missing the "beauty" of this film. A movie so bad that it's good is like finding a rare gem. This looks to me like it has all the makings of a cult classic like "Plan Nine From Outer Space", "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes", or "Santa Claus Defeats the Martians". We may just have an instant classic on our hands here..."Bobby Fischer Live" coming soon to a 99 Cent store near you!

How do you make a movie about Bobby Fischer and the guy playing him doesnt look a thing like Fischer,, and has blonde hair?  And why is Boris Spassky Mexican???

Its always good to see a lot of research go into the making of a movie.  Good God...

Agree with Ironman718. The whole thing looks C H E A P, I couldn't watch it all. To associate such a film with the name Bobby Fischer is a disgrace.

Talk about everyone jumping on lets bash the movie trailer.come now its not oscar film but on the other hand its not oscar myer hot dog either.I have a few books on him an the movie trailer is 100% true to what most books have about what made him tick.Given all the nutzoid garbage he put out on the radio an interviews late in life i donot think any big budget film will be made about him for a few years however movies like this will bit by bit pave the way for a big budget hollywood production we all wish for.worst is they should have pick a actors who look more like Spassky an fischer but the actor playing fisher is ok an the Fischer late in life looks a lot like him also liked the others i for one plan to go see it an if you all ever wish to see a big budget film on him you should to.How he was pictured late in life is very sad but very true.Every chess fan should think the film an actors for having the guts to go out on a limb an make a film on my boyhood chess hero when noone else will touch Bobby with a 10 foot pole.I like the black n white  going to color igive the trailer a solid B.

Awful. I haven't seen so many wooden actors since I saw Pinnochio!

Bobby deserved better than this.

The trailer looks like a propaganda piece produced by the former Soviet Union to make Bobby Fischer look bad. I strongly doubt that I will waste any more time or money on this movie.

Pretty melodramatic. I'd still watch it nevertheless.

Not impressed by the trailer, unsure from this how much of the film will actually be based on fact. Having a star who looks nothing like Fischer doesn't help.

I couldn't even finish watching the trailer, nevermind the film. It made me cringe. Dont care if it looked like him or not, but it was full of cliches....and the music? Was Bobby a Clapton fan?  Thas the only reason I can think of using that track. Naff. Naff. Naff. Sorry to the director. But naff.

What we need is Ken Burns to do a documentary on him. Only then will have a really good film.

You guys don't like this trailer because you are expecting to have another Searching for Bobby Fischer movie, it is not, so don't be so hard with the trailer, I liked it, and I understand the director wants to show us the human side of the chess machine. If you want to see an epic movie about chess, you better start producing one yourselves.
