The latest from one of our fellow NC, USA members:

" Fellow Military Chess Players

For those who may not have yet seen it, the tournament report of the NATO Chess Championship is posted on uschess.org. There will also be a full story in the November Chess Life.

The 28th NATO Championship will be held March 27-31 in Budapest, Hungary. The entry fee is going to be about $400. This tournament is going to be held in a very nice hotel.

Due to the tournament being held in March and the fact that the hotel wants payment in advance, there is going to be a very tight Non-Negotiable timeline for the selection process.

Applications are going to be due NLT 15 November. I will announce selections on/about 1 December. Payment will be due in my hands on 15 December. Those who do not pay by then will not go to the tournament! I have no flexibility to grant extensions!

Attached is a list of military chess players that I know about. If you know of others (especially if they are rated 1900+) please share this with them and cc me so I can add them to the database.

If you are interested in applying for the team, you can let me know now, but 1 November is the last day to let me know. If you are definitely not interested, please let me know (particularly if you are in the top 20). This will help others plan.

The data on this lists is very preliminary. Ratings can change (thought they cannot dejosecrease because we use peak rating). Also, bonus points can change if people play in tournaments - particularly the AFO in October.

Players in yellow indicated they will most likely not be available. Players in green have already applied.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

COL (ret) Hater

If interested, PM me name and email, and I will pass it on.
