
BC Open 2019 Chess Tournament (Feb. 16-18)
The first major chess tournament to take place in the lower mainland in 2019 rolls into Richmond this Family Day long weekend. Typically one of the best-attended events of the year, the BC Open is a great opportunity for players of all levels. Veteran local TD Stephen Wright will preside. This year sees a hefty $3250 guaranteed prize fund up for grabs. All details courtesy of the tournament website:
When: Feb. 16-18, 2019 (**EARLY BIRD registration at a discounted rate ends Jan. 13**)
Where: Richmond, BC @ the Executive Airport Inn (7311 Westminster Highway)
Format: Six-round Swiss; 90 min + 30 sec time control; two games per day
Four skill sections by rating: Premier, U1900, U1500, U1100
Entry Fee: $60 before Jan 13; $70 before Feb. 15; $85 on site ($20-40 to play up, depending on rating); family member discounts; free entry for GM/IM/WGM
Prizes: $3250 guaranteed fund with cash prizes for 1st/2nd in all sections + best U1700, best U1300, and best Unrated player
