The Oldest Team Challenge of them all will be held at 6-30 pm on Saturday 5th September 2020 on Chess.com.  Register now for your place in history, wherever your county allegiance may lie. Please join one of the North or South clubs to register your place in the event.

ECF North

ECF South

All you need to register is to be an ECF member or Supporter for 2020/21 (i.e. valid to 31 August 2021) and have an active Chess.com playing account. Read more information [including a look back at the 1893 & 1894 events] on the event page here: event web page

This will be an online rematch of the historic fixtures of 1893 and 1894 in Birmingham and London, where the famous Joseph Henry Blackburne adjudicated. The South won both of the events in the 1890s; the Challenge Match has not been replayed since and the North are looking to overturn the result. We are planning for a live commentary from Matthew Sadler and Natasha Regan on their youtube channel here: Youtube Game Changer Channel.

The North and South Captains are Mick Riding and Anthony Fulton respectively. We are looking for 100 boards or preferably more for the event which will be played at 60|15 standard time control. Please do register with one of the chess.com clubs at the above links completing the registration form accessible from those pages, if you are interested in playing for one of the teams in what will be a historic and very high profile event for English Chess.
