Local opportunities to play and improve in chess are rapidly approaching!

  1. This year, the Florida State Championship will be at the Hilton St. Petersburg Carillon Park from Sep. 3 – 6.  See www.floridachess.org for details.
  2. Alton4Chess is hosting a student tournament in Tampa on Sat., Sep. 18th.  See www.alton4chess.com/2021-tournaments.html for details.
  3. The Pinellas Chess League is starting a high school league that will begin play in November.  Countryside, Dunedin, East Lake, Gibbs, and Northeast high schools will be playing; a few other schools are still deciding.  If you are a Pinellas high school student, tell your chess club sponsor you want to participate!  If your school is not participating but you are a high schooler who wants to be in the league, contact me at chess.com (gavlonitis) or by email (avlonitisg@pcsb.org) and I will do my best to get you on a team.
  4. Pinellas plans to participate in the upcoming 20/20 Championship League season.  Monthly participation in this international league is open to all students & adults in PCS Chess by texting @pcschess1 to 81010 from your cell phone.  I (gavlonitis) will then send you an invitation to join our chess.com competition club "Pinellas County FL" and send reminders before matches.
  5. Here at PCS Chess we continue to offer weekly Arenas:  Wed 4:40 – 5:40pm (15|0); Thu 6:00 – 7:30pm (30|0); and Sat 7 – 8pm (10|0).  Note:  starting August 11, our Wednesday arenas will begin at 4:40 instead of 3:40 in order to accommodate the schedules of numerous middle schools.
