Fall is Full of Tampa Bay Chess Action!
Local opportunities to play and improve in chess are rapidly approaching!
- This year, the Florida State Championship will be at the Hilton St. Petersburg Carillon Park from Sep. 3 – 6. See www.floridachess.org for details.
- Alton4Chess is hosting a student tournament in Tampa on Sat., Sep. 18th. See www.alton4chess.com/2021-tournaments.html for details.
- The Pinellas Chess League is starting a high school league that will begin play in November. Countryside, Dunedin, East Lake, Gibbs, and Northeast high schools will be playing; a few other schools are still deciding. If you are a Pinellas high school student, tell your chess club sponsor you want to participate! If your school is not participating but you are a high schooler who wants to be in the league, contact me at chess.com (gavlonitis) or by email (avlonitisg@pcsb.org) and I will do my best to get you on a team.
- Pinellas plans to participate in the upcoming 20/20 Championship League season. Monthly participation in this international league is open to all students & adults in PCS Chess by texting @pcschess1 to 81010 from your cell phone. I (gavlonitis) will then send you an invitation to join our chess.com competition club "Pinellas County FL" and send reminders before matches.
- Here at PCS Chess we continue to offer weekly Arenas: Wed 4:40 – 5:40pm (15|0); Thu 6:00 – 7:30pm (30|0); and Sat 7 – 8pm (10|0). Note: starting August 11, our Wednesday arenas will begin at 4:40 instead of 3:40 in order to accommodate the schedules of numerous middle schools.
- Here at PCS Chess we continue to offer weekly Swiss tournaments: Tue 7pm (5|1, four rounds) and Fri 7:30pm (10|0, three rounds, for K-12 students only)
