The bad news: The 23rd annual Chess Jam in Ferndale was postponed.

The good news: Chess Jam Online will premiere on April 18, the same day Chess Jam was to happen!

Just like the traditional Chess Jam, there will be divisions for Kindergarten through 12th grades, register in advance, five rounds of no-elimination Swiss pairings, the traditional door prizes (if you have a riddle!), and each round could last up to an hour.

But unlike the traditional Chess Jam:

  • You don't have to travel to Ferndale, it will all happen online at Chess.com via The Kraken club
  • It will be open to NW WA youth only
  • Every game will use online clocks with 25 minutes per side (and 5 bonus seconds per move)
  • Entry is free
  • Awards will include virtual medals, and online prizes-memberships from various chess websites around the world
  • It will be live-streamed
  • Top eight finishers in each division can send in a goofy-creative selfie for the Champions Wall of Fame

So check out the website at http://northwestchess.info/jam20online.html, enter before the April 17 deadline, and get ready to rumble!
