Updates to Team Utah!
We've had a crazy last few weeks with the COVID-19 outbreak and I'm sure it's affected all of us in some ways. The Utah Chess Association (UCA) would like to provide more opportunities for chess players in Utah to play and right now doing that online seems to be the answer. We have made some changes to the Admins in this club and will be running online events organized by the UCA. If you were once an admin and now are just a member, please don't be offended. It only means we don't know you yet. We will certainly be looking for other admins to help organize regular events and get Utah Chess more active online. If you are interested please let us know. You must live in the state of Utah.
My name is Matt Crossette and I am an avid online chess player with tens of thousands of online games played on Chess.com (CDC) and tens of thousands on other sites as well. I am currently on the board of the UCA and live in Springville, UT
Speaking of Utah... there are a lot of members in here and we would like to keep it to just those living in Utah (Update: if you agree to not play for any other state team you are welcome here no matter where you are from) to make it fair for other state teams we might play. If you no longer live in Utah there is no nice way to say this, but we ask you as politely as possible to please leave the club to help us maintain our integrity (or not play for any other state clubs besides Utah). We will be going through the members and may contact you if we have a question about where you live. If you're CDC profile says you live somewhere other than Utah you may be removed from the club. If it's a mistake please let us know... As of now we are not going to require proof. If you say you live here we will take you at your word.
Finally, we would love to hear some input from the members here. We want to start organizing on a regular basis some online tournaments. What is everyone interested in? Would you like tournaments for just members of this group? Only against other clubs? Both? What time controls does everyone want to see? Bullet? Blitz? Do you want them to be rated by the USCF? (These would not affect your over the board rating. It is a separate online rating recognized by the USCF and there would be a charge for these tournaments) And finally, how frequently would you like to see an official club tournament? Daily? Weekly? Monthly?
If you have any other advice or if there is something I missed please post in the comments. Looking forward to having a ton of fun with you all on CDC!
