ROCK ROOKS CHESS CLUB

MINUTES

Thursday, October 16, 2008  ~  12:30 PM  ~  Library

Attendance:  Charles Aldrich (Vice-President), Brian Beecher (Advisor), John Collins, Jordan Hartwig (Treasurer), Ryan Hauri, Megan Lueck, Melissa Lueck (Secretary), Josiah Stone (President), Brett Williams.

2. Meeting called to order at 12:32 p.m.
3. Minutes Approved / Agenda approved.
4. Old Business.       
   1. Nick French’s Opening Lecture.

                                                              i.      Nick has agreed to teach a lecture on chess openings.  Altered Reality has moved their meetings to the conference room; therefore, the Large Lecture Hall may be a possibility for the lecture.  Brian will make arrangements with University Relations to have the lecture mounted on our web server to be available via streaming video for our online members (via chess.com).

                                                            ii.      Megan will make posters for the lecture once we figure out the date and time.

   1. USCF Master/Life Master Pete Webster Lecture Series.

                                                              i.      Brian will contact Pete Webster.

                                                              i.      Jordan is working on a pricelist for wish-list items.

                                                              i.      The first chess.com tournament has finished.  Nick French and John Kjell have tied for first place.

2. New Business.
   1. Turkey Tournament.

                                                              i.      Brett recommended to go ahead with the Turkey Tournament even though several members cannot attend.  Brian said that the library is open from 8-noon on Friday, November 28 (day after Thanksgiving).  We would need at least 5-6 players.  Students who are interested in a Turkey Tournament are: Charles, Brett, Megan, Ryan, and Melissa.  Depending on the number of players, games could last 30-40 minutes each (Round Robin style).

                                                            ii.      Prizes might be obtained by Ryan (Old Country Buffet), Charles (Taco Bell), Jordan (Starbucks), and others from the club who are working for local businesses.
