Minutes from October 2, 2008 Meeting

Rock Rooks Chess Club Meeting: October 2, 2008 (University of Wisconsin - Rock County Campus)

Attendance:  Charles Aldrich, Brian Beecher (Advisor), Nick French, Megan Lueck, Melissa Lueck, Brett Williams.

2. Meeting called to order at 12:40 p.m.
3. Minutes Approved.
   1. It was decided by those in attendance that since no active Executive Committee is in session, we would go through with the business part of the meeting.
4. Agenda approved.
5. Old Business
   1. Election of Officers.

                                                              i.      Because no active Executive Committee is in session, and no one running for the Executive Committee is running against another, it was decided to adopt the Executive by acclimation.  A unanimous vote set the Executive Committee: Josiah Stone (President), Charles Aldrich (Vice-President), Melissa Lueck (Secretary), Jordan Hartwig (Treasurer), Paul Bordner (Temple Elect).

   1. Money surplus from refunded chess table.

                                                              i.      Nick suggested purchasing 7 chess clocks for our next tournament.

   1. Nick volunteered to teach openings using the King’s Pawn during lunch.  This could be video taped and somehow made accessable to our online club via chess.com through streaming video.  DVDs could also be made and kept at the library for checkout.
   2. Nick recommended having the tournament not on the Friday after Thanksgiving, but on another Friday during the semester.  This was a well-received idea and will be discussed at future meetings.  Depending on the number of participants, a Swiss-style or round-robin tournament may be possible.
2. New Business.
   1. Some of our new members are interested in chess instruction.
   2. Nick French gave a demonstration of www.chess.com
