FAQs

''What to do to play?''

1- It cannot be easier than this once one knows how to do. wink

2- If you have not signed-up yet, simply post about your intention to play below. devices

3- Be nice with your TD by sending me a friend request so that I can easily find you on LIVE chess. explorer

4- Be on LIVE chess on Saturday March 25 by 10:50AM New-York/Montreal = 2:50PM UTC/GMT, as I might start pairing the players before the time. chesspawn

5- Make sure you are not playing anyone at pairing time otherwise you will not be paired. thumbdown

---------------------------------

''What is the Time Control?''

Time Control is G45|45, meaning 45 minutes allowed to each player for the entire game, plus a 45 second bonus to the player's clock for each move played. This is equivalent to 90 minutes to each player if the player uses all their time in a 60 move game.

----------------------------------

''Are the games rated?''

Yes.

---------------------------------

''What about the color assignment?''

Color assignment is randomed.

----------------------------------

''Does one know one's opponent in advance?''

No. One gets to know one's opponent when the game starts!

---------------------------------

''What sort of pairing formula will be used?''

No SWISS pairing here. The players whose ratings are close will be paired together. The corollary to this is: The more participants, the more competitive the games are!

---------------------------------

''Do I have to find my opponent and issue (or accept) a game offer?''

No. Given you and your opponent will be in LIVE chess on time, that both of you will not be playing and your settings allow, your game will pop-up automatically. You just need to wait. It might take a couple of minutes though, as I do the pairings one by one.

-------------------------------

''Yeah...but what if there is an odd number of players?''

No issue. I will act as the JOKER in case of an odd number of players. No one will be left behind without a game.

''OK-ok... this is great. But what if there is not enough players?''

This will not happen. We are not relying on the ChessDotCom's automatic pairing system. I do the pairings. In the worst case scenario, You will be the only participant and I will be your opponent.

--------------------------------

''But I heard about some issues from the first try.''

Yes, indeed and this was expectable. The same thing happened at the beginning when I was arranging online tourneys during the pandemic. But that tends to stabilize as we gain experience. The things to remember is to never leave LIVE Chess, refresh screens a couple of times and make sure that your settings does not prevent you from being paired with anyone.

-----------------------------------

''Is there going to be other similar events in the future?''

Hopefully! It will depend how things go. Everything lays upon the number of participants, their reactions and the popular demand for such a formula. Stay tuned!

Best Regards,
