Team Tennessee Needs Two New Admin for USTCL Participation ASAP
The 2026 US Team Chess League (USTCL) is getting cranked back up and will begin play in early July. Team Tennessee competed in Division 4 in 2024-25, and the USTCL is requesting confirmation from us if we plan to participate this season. Likewise, they are asking us to have at least two admins registered and playing in the league this coming season. For the past few years I have handled this, but I can't do it this season. That means we need at least 2 new Admins to take over. I asked my fellow Super Admins but neither responded.
So, if you enjoy playing the monthly matches against the other states in Division 4, please speak up. But you must act fast. The USTCL needs to hear from Team Tennessee in the next week. As I said, I can't do it so I have not responded to their request for confirmation.
If you have experience as an admin here on chess.com, you know there's not much to it. And if you have no experience you can learn everything you need to know in less than 5 minutes. Essentially the team needs someone who will work with the other admin, keep an eye on the USTCL schedule (once posted), and issue the challenge at the appropriate time. It might take 5 minutes a month to set up the challenge, and the rest is taken care of by the League.
The season lasts approximately nine months, or long enough for each team to play every other team in the division once. Every month teams issue a challenge to their appointed opponent on or about the 4th day of the month, and the match begins ten days later on the 14th. The ten days gives each team time to fill their roster for that match. The games are 3-days/move correspondence type games (called daily games here on chess.com) and every month each participant plays one opponent from the opposing team twice, once with the white pieces and once with the black.
If this all sounds complicated, it's because I'm not explaining it very well. It's really simple, and again takes an admin just a few minutes each month. Some months it doesn't take that because the opposing team will issue the challenge first. When this happens all that is required of our admin is to look over the challenge to make sure it is set up correctly, and accept it if it is.
If you're interested in being an admin for Team Tennessee, comment on this announcement or send a direct message to @monGrelTiger this week. For more information about the USTCL visit: https://www.chess.com/club/us-team-chess-league
