The French Defense is one of the fundamental openings and a common defensive strategy against white's first move 1.e4. In this video, IM Andrey Ostrovskiy continues the series on the French Defense with the Steinitz Variation. The French Defense is characterized by the following moves: 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 If the game continues with 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e5, we enter the Steinitz Variation of the French Defense. The main focus of this video is on the basic ideas, strategies and plans for both sides in the different lines.
