Dear Silverdale Friends and Family,

Quads are back at the Silverdale Chess Club!

For those who are interested, this week we will offer a second Quad Chess tournament event at the Silverdale Chess Club. (This is an unrated event. There is no entrance fee.)

If you recall our first Quad Chess event at the Silverdale Library, a Quad is made
up of four people who are each in the same rating class (or range).  The idea is to pair
four players of similar strength in a round-robin format where each player plays the other
three players in the Quad in three rounds.

The time limit is Game 20, so 20 minutes for each side. Once a game concludes,
a player simply waits for the opportunity to play another player in the Quad. And so forth
until all three games have concluded.

To sign up, please see me at the Scorer’s Table at 2:30 to sign up and estimate your rating.  Juniors may also be paired by age.

Interested in a “Simul” (Simultaneous Chess Exhibitiion”?

I spoke with Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan again this week to invite him to give
a simultaenous exhibition pitting him against 15 of our Club members. Those who follow Yasser know that, in addition to being a 5-time U.S. Chess Champion, a second to
Victor Korchnoi in a world championship candidates match, Yaz is also the
official spokesperson and commentator for the St. Louis Chess Club.

Regrettably, Yaz stopped doing simuls some years ago, but he recommended his
pal, GM Larry Christiansan. Larry was the U.S. champion in 1980, 1983, and 2002. He competed
in the FIDE World Championship cycles in 1998 and 2002, and in the FIDE World Cup in 2013.  Christiansen played on the United States teams in the Chess Olympiad in 1980, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1996 and 2002.

Simul Survey

1.) Would you be interested in playing a world-class Grandmaster in a simul?  We envision
15 players to face off against Larry in a “hybrid” event where the moves would appear
on chessboards online and transferred to your physical chessboard.

2.)  If we were to offer GM Christensen an honorarium, (which we may need to), would
you be willing to contribute a small fee of $20 per player?

See you Saturday!
The Silverdale Chess Club meets on Saturdays from 2:30-4:30 at Moment Brewing, 10876 Myhre Pl NW Suite 112, Silverdale, WA 98383
