UPDATE: Improved Live Chat Settings
Hello, Beta community!
We're happy to share a new improvement to our chat functionality for live games. You can now adjust your chat privacy settings to limit who can message you during live games.
When playing a game, you'll see three dots at the top right corner of the chat menu.
Click it to open a menu where you'll find options to easily add your opponent as your friend, report them, or adjust your chat settings.
Clicking the Game Chat option, you'll find all your chat settings. From there, you can select who has permission to message you. Everyone means anyone on Chess.com can send you a message; Friends Only means only people you've added as friends on Chess.com can.
Request Only is the default option. If you keep it selected, anyone on Chess.com will be able to send you a chat request. They can do that by sending you a message. They'll see a message saying, "A chat request has been sent to [your username]." You'll also see that message if you try communicating with an opponent with Request Only selected.
On your end, you'll see a message saying, "[Your opponent's username] wants to chat..." with the option of accepting or declining their request.
Clicking the "Accept" button will show you the message the person has sent, while clicking "Decline" will turn chat off against that specific opponent. Once you've chosen an option, it'll carry over to future games against that opponent.
You also have the option of turning your chat off altogether. Clicking the toggle next to "Game Chat" will disable your chat. No one on Chess.com will be able to message you, even in future games. You can always toggle chat back on.
Please let us know what you think about this feature! As always, please leave all feedback you may have as a comment on this post.
