How to not flag in the 2023 Chess.com daily chess tournament
Now, I lost the first round after forgetting to play, but I know what I did wrong and I hope I can build on these upsetting losses and do better next year. This blog is going to be split into sections of how you can survive the daily chess championship, so let's start already!
1. Haste doesn't always makes waste
The reason I lost my games was because of my day off vacation. There are of course many ways to stop this. The way I suggest is to put a timer on so that you play 3 times every day. This is an advantage that not many people do. On the contrary, unless it is a simple move that you probably could've premoved, try not playing until around those three times. Haste still does make waste sometimes. Here's a game I lost because I moved TOO fast:
The other important thing to note is to try to make these times at least 2.5 hours between each other so that you don't end up flagging if you forget to move once. You CAN go out of your schedule if you missed a time, and it is highly suggested.
2. use the explorer page
It is completely fine to use the explorer page while playing your daily chess games. This can help you avoid countless traps by being able to see them beforehand. But you CANNOT use analysis as you will be eliminated from the tournament. This can also help you find a new favorite opening while playing which is never EVER bad.
3. Check the tournament page
To figure out more about what you need to do, check the tournament page. If you want to win your round, and you're not sure if you need a draw or a win, it always helps to check the tournament page for this.
4. Limit the amount of other daily chess games
This happened to me. I was playing in a tournament that was two days no vacation. I accidentally played in that tournament instead of the daily chess championship, so I ended up flagging nearly all my games.
5. Never give up
Even if you flag a couple of games, keep playing on! This can help you still get the blog prize, the best game prize, the video analysis prize, or the best move prize. Even after elimination, there is always something worth fighting for
