This is the Spanish opening. It is and opening where the white white squared bishop is pinning the black white squared knight. Sometimes a variation to this is black playing d6 so the black e5 pawn is defended because if white captures the knight on c6, if the d6 pawn is not defending the e5 pawn. This is a good opening because it develops two white minor pieces.
