The Ringing of a Phone

The Ringing of a Phone

Every morning my phone rings. And every morning it’s the same guy.
He says, “Hi, I’m fine, but I could use this and that.”
Then he tells me how great I am, and then he says goodbye and hangs up before I can even speak.
And it’s been nearly the exact same thing every morning for years!

But, today I get a call from the police station.
The guy’s all panicky because he broke some laws and they’re about to sentence him.
He wants me to come down and testify as a character witness.
And he wants me to pay a fine that he can’t afford!

But all I could say to him was: “I’m sorry, I don’t know you.”
He pleads: “What?! We talk every morning!”
I say: “Yeah, I heard you. But you never listened to me. You said the same thing every morning, telling me all the things you want out of life. But you never asked what I wanted. You never really talked to me at all. So how can I say anything good about you? I never knew you.”

…and I hang up the phone.

Is this what we do with God? Do we rely on repetitive and meaningless prayers or do we strive to have a real relationship? Jesus says we are to:  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

Think about it! God bless you.
