What is 3 check chess?
This blog will run in parallel with the 3 Check Lovers Club and its content will be about the 3 check chess variant.
In this first post I will explain what the 3 check chess variant is. A chess variant is a game similar to chess (it is inspired by chess) but with some differences.
For the 3 check variant the only two rules are:
- All normal chess rules apply.
- A player also wins when he checks his opponent for the third time.
Because a king is said to be "in check" when "it is attacked by one or more of the opponent's pieces" (FIDE laws of chess article 3.9), a double check only counts as a single.
You can play 3 check chess in chess.com by going to live chess and...
...changing the type to 3 check.
3 check tournaments exist too.
3 check has many similarities and many differences with chess which are sometimes hard to notice but they are important to know in order to be a better 3 check player. In the next post I am going to explain them.
