GARRY KASPAROV vs ANATOLY KARPOV: THE GREATEST RIVALRY OF ALL TIME

1. This game was played in 1985 and is regarded as one of Kasparov's best games. In the middlegame, it was Kasparov's time to throw in a nasty Knight sacrifice. When he played the Knight sacrifice, you would realise taht he had atleast 5 attackers. But the thing is that he was so confident with his move. Kasparov had calculated so many combinations for each and every reply that Karpov had. He won the game by then temporarily sacrificing his Queen and Karpov resigned in a few moves as the upcoming endgame was losing for him.
2. This game was also played in 1985 featuring the Sicilian Defense from Garry. Essentially Garry sacrificed a pawn in the opening but got plenty of activity. This game is known as the Kasparov Octopus-Knight game because in the middlegame, Garry got a great square for his Knight from where the Knight controlled 8 key squares in Karpov's position. Have a look at the game; you will be astonished by Garry's play.
3. This was a game that Karpov won with the White pieces. This game was also played in 1985. The game was positional upto like move 35, but in some time, Karpov got a decisive advantage bacause of Garry's weak King and Karpov had his Queen and Bishop lined up to attack the Black King. Then even his Rook joined the attack and eventually, Karpov won by resignation.
4. This game was played in 1984 with Anatoly Karpov as White winning the game. In this game, the endgame was very crucial. It was a Rook, Bishop with each side with some pawns endgame. When Garry made a blunder by capturing a pawn with his Rook, Karpov pounced upon him and then defeated Garry.
5. This game was played in 1991. Garry won this game with the White pieces. Garry played the Scotch Game, an opening that is not played a lot at the Grandmaster level. In the middlegame, Garry was simply up a piece and ended up winning the game.
