How to think ahead of your next move
Your opponent just played a move and you are dazzled with the limitless number of moves. But Good plans are limited and Great Players strive to find them, either to find a winning combination or finding a brilliant move to save your king from dwelling in a lost position. In this article, I will show you 5 pieces of advice to help you become a better chess planner.
1- Save your position
i - Can White make a draw here? Stop reading and find the saving combination
ii-Another one where your king is stuck in enemy's territory.
Is black winning this endgame?
iii- Force a draw in an unwinnable position and resisting the opponent pressure
In a recent Chess9LX tournament, Garry Kasparov (White) was playing against Hikaru Nakamura (Black) Nakamura was threatening to trade all pieces and win the race to promotion. However, Garry, with less than one minute on the clock, finds the accurate saving combination.
If Black takes the pawn on f4. Can you save your white king? Try to find Garry's moves.
2- Be a veracious attacker
No one can doubt the fact that endgames are the core of chess, Yet attacking is considered equally difficult especially when being tempted to sacrifice your pieces to shear your opponent's king defenses.
One of the main strategies to execute this is to limit your opponent's king's squares either through surrounding him or tempting him to place a piece on the only saving square for him.
Another one is to look for piece value, I will share with you one of my games that got a brilliant move and accuracy of 92.1%
