
Le Quang Liem
Lê Quang Liêm - Vietnam's no. 1 chess player, born on March 13, 1991, from Ho Chi Minh City. He started playing chess at the age of 7 under the dedicated guidance of his older brother Le Quang Long. At the 2006 World Chess Olympiad, despite having to compete with other Grandmasters, he achieved excellent results with 5 wins and 3 draws. Thanks to that impressive achievement, after the tournament ended, Lê Quang Liêm was awarded the title of Grandmaster. January 2010 marked the first time a Vietnamese chess player entered the world's top 100 of FIDE. Specifically, Lê Quang Liêm was ranked 93rd in the world with an elo coefficient of 2647 and entered the top 10 promising young players in the world.
2013 was a memorable year for Lê Quang Liêm when he won the Blitz Chess Championship at the World Rapid and Blitz Championship held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia in June. This championship made him the first Vietnamese chess player to win the world championship.
Lê Quang Liêm graduated summa cum laude from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, United States in May, 2017. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and a Bachelor of Arts degree in management.
In 2021, he took the offer to be the chess coach at his alma mater Webster University, succeeding Susan Polgar.
