What is a Grandmaster?

Grandmaster (GM) is a title awarded to chess players by the World Chess Organization FIDE. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally the title can be revoked for cheating.

How do grandmasters practice?

They play over and analyze the games in an opening variation, including their own, until they are familiar with the positions. They learn instead of memorize. They also follow a regular schedule for practice, and have a personalized coach.

How do you start strong?

Start young. Practice regularly, everyday, one-two hours a day at the least, even if you have a tight schedule. Have chess notebooks, one for learning new chess tactics, and another for your game annotations. Play in tournaments.

If you follow these steps, you will be one step closer to playing international tournaments in Reykjavik, Iceland.
