Remembering DGM
Yesterday @DJM473 closed his account.
I know what I am going to say is not nearly enough to represent DGM, but this is from my personal perspective. Better known as DGM, he was owner of NARWHALS, the club his profile picture is taken from. As you can see, I have it too . This was part of my longish history with him.
It started sometime around when he promoted me to coordinator is NARWHALS. I had become MUCH more active than before, why I got promoted. At the time, DGM had the NARWHALS profile picture for his. Being recently promoted, I decided to change mine to, to match his and the club’s. He bore that picture for some time, during which people would get annoyed when we posted after one another
Then he changed his to the Liverpool Football Club picture. At that time I still had the NARWHALS club picture. But then I started considering copying his. When I mentioned it, he though it was a good idea ofc. So I did it. I continued using whatever profile picture DGM had, and eventually @K-O-24-B-E, better known as KOBE did it too. We ended up spamming a bunch of people and got muted, but we contacted support who undid the mute .
Eventually I decided to copy his name (of course it was actually Daniel Morrison but he never wrote that) and his location, “NARWHALS NARWHALS” & “Swimming in the ocean!” I also would copy his status, whatever it was.
Then he changed his status to “1400 bullet!!!” Ofc I copied it, even though I was only 957 bullet at the time. He noticed, and told me I now had to get there . So I started playing more bullet, some of it live with DGM himself (sadly, he wouldn’t play rated). He won most of those games, mostly on time in games I should have won (seriously?). It is because of DGM that I am now at 1329 bullet
.
This was the last status he had before his final status. From the start of this week I noticed that he hadn’t been quite as active. I wondered what was happening. He promoted others to SA in some of his other clubs, such as @Typewriter44 in The Official Chess.com Fast Vote Chess Team, a group that had gotten to #64 in vote chess after only a few months (DGM created it ofc). He even chose to promote ME in one of his newer clubs, something I never would have expected.
His final status read:
“Spending 2 much time on here. Need to move on ”
I will always remember DGM.
