Is Membership Worth It?
There are 3 types of membership you can get on chess.com:
Gold
Platinum
Diamond
If you are thinking about getting a membership, read this first. Ask yourself "do I really need it?" In this blog I will show if it really is worth it.
Gold - $6.99/month
If you get the gold membership you get:
- Unlimited puzzles
- Unlimited lessons
- Unlock all bots
- No ads
For $6.99 a month you might be thinking "that is a good deal". Ok, what happens if I told you this. You can get unlimited chess puzzles at Chesspuzzle.net. If you want chess lessons, go to YouTube and search for chess lessons. Getting all chess bots is good. Ads--- ok really, do the ads really bother you? If we weigh out everything, the results are 3 bad, 1 good. In my opinion gold is not worth the money.
Platinum:
- Unlimited Game Review
- Unlimited Puzzles
- Unlimited Lessons
- Unlock All Bots
- No Ads
The only thing different between platinum and gold is that you get unlimited game reviews. If you want to analyze your games, try to do it yourself and see if you can learn from your mistakes. Or you could put in a chess engine like this website. In my opinion, this type of membership is not worth it.
Diamond:
- Unlimited Game Review
- Unlimited Coach Explanations
- Unlimited Insights
- Unlimited Puzzles
- Unlimited Lessons
- Unlock All Bots
- No Ads
Game review and coach explanations together are great. You get an analysis of your game and an explanation on what to do better. Insights are great. You get stats and you find out what to do better on. Everything else I already explained in the gold membership. This makes it 4 good, 3 bad. So is diamond worth it? Overall, I would say that a diamond membership is worth the money.
Conclusion:
In conclusion I would say if you want a membership, spend a few more buck every month and get a diamond membership.
