Panchenko Memorial 2021, Day 1: Missed Win & Sore Throat

Panchenko Memorial 2021, Day 1: Missed Win & Sore Throat

Hi everyone!

If you are following my Instagram or Twitter, you probably already know what happened yesterday in my game. If not, please follow . I'll provide the links at the bottom of this post.

But first I would like to tell you how my day began. And it began not very positively. I woke up with a sore throat and realized that I was getting sick. The venue where we play is a bit chilly, plus some pretty cold winds blow here in Chelyabinsk. Perhaps this was the cause of my illness. I stayed the whole day in my hotel room drinking hot tea.

Part of this time I spent reading comments about how it is necessary to claim a draw with a threefold repetition. Shame and disgrace to the Women FIDE Master who does not know this! Anyway...

Having bought medicines before the 1st round, I went to the playing hall.

Perhaps my game was not going well for me. To be honest, I am not very good at this opening for Black. Before showing you my game, I would like to give you a little task!

Last move was 34.Rc2 - ... Black to play!

How would you play with Black in this position? Such tactic is rarely seen in my games (since I am more of a positional player). And even if it does occur, then as a rule I do not have enough time to calculate the variations. I didn't have that much time (about 1 minute maybe), but I still played the right moves!

The last move was 41.Ke2 - ... Black to play!

This position follows from the previous one. Here, unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to find the winning move. It's a pity ... the game ended in a draw.
