Two of the most popular chess websites are chess.com and lichess.org. Here's my opinion on the best website.

CHESS.COM VS LICHESS.ORG

COST: Lichess.org - Lichess.org has no ads and is completely free unless if you want to support them with the patron wings.

CUSTOMIZATION: Chess.com - Chess.com has more customization options. For example, you can change the piece animation. While in lichess, you can only change the speed of the piece animation.

VARIANTS: Chess.com - Chess.com has more variants. Including my favorite, bughouse.

CHATTING: Lichess.org - Lichess has notifications on when your friends message you, and it's just easier to talk on there.
