Weekly Tournament Blog #25
Hello and welcome back to the tournament blog! Today I'll be talking about my 4/5 game score in my tournament.
My first opponent forfeited unexpectedly, and I had to play a 560. Unfortunately, I messed up the notation, so I'll explain the game. We played the Sicilian, and we traded off pieces until both sides had 1 minor piece and 6 pawns and also a queen. I forced mate, and he resigned.
I took a 3-minute break and ate some chocolate. Here's my next game as white explained. Me and my opponent played a French Opening, and I won 2 pawns due to a mistake. I managed to somehow get a pawn to b7, and I was intercepted by a rook. So I put one of my rooks on c7 to defend. We played a few more moves, and I took a deep, 5-minute thought. I decided my tactic would work, and I sacrificed my rook on the 1st rank. I forked his king and rook, and I won back my rook at the expense of my knight. But instead of taking, he defended. I ended up promoting and winning.
My third game was quite interesting. I won a pawn, and I defended my extra pawn. I dodged a few equalization tactics. After playing around 30 moves, I forked the queen and rook for the b-pawn. He resigned after I checkmated on the 8th rank.
The coach said we'd have to play another game, so we did. I played black, and my opponent sprung a opening I didn't know much about. So I hung on, but he won 2 pawns and used the g and h-pawns to promote.
My opponent forfeited the blitz tiebreaker, giving me 1st. That's it!
Hope you enjoyed it!
