Note to the readers- Please check all possible moves that I had tried to shown in the games. Then only you will be able to completey understand this position.

Hello Chess Fans,

After my first endgame blog on Lucena Position, I have continued the series with this blog on Philidor Defence. These two positions are the most important rook endgames, everyone should know.

Now let us have a look at the position we are going to discuss:

First of all I would like to tell you

In this position if it's white to move white wins and if it is black to move it will end up in a draw.

First of all I would like to tell you what not to do in this position if playing for a draw.

I think it would be clear that black has to prevent white from playing Kd6. Now the question is how to draw the position? Without proper understanding of the Philidor Defence white is going to have a very easy win, inspite of black to move.

Now let us review the position:

This is the way to draw the game.We should also know how to win this position if it is white to move.

Let us check it:

I hope this will make you understand, the PHILIDOR DEFENCE and will help in improving your endgame. Please comment and help me to improve as a blogger. Feel free to send me a friend request. Until then......... cheers
