Python Strategy

I have so many Petrosian books. Too many, probably. I spent a lot of last year collecting them. I have been reading this one, Python Strategy on and off for ages and am now nearly finished. And I really like it. I think if you were going to buy 1 book about Tigran this should probably be it (as I read others I have maybe I will change this assessment but for now I think this is the one). It has a bit of everything: it tells Petrosian's story from childhood, rising through the ranks, becoming world champion, retaining the title against Spassky in 66, losing it to him in 69, some of his games through the 70's, up to some in the early 80's (including 2 against Kasparov). Games are often annotated by Petrosian himself and/or other top players and there are decent length text segments including articles, pieces written by petrosian, details from his interviews etc. And the book itself (2015 Quality Chess UK LTD edition) feels lovely quality.

I also enjoyed 'Tigran Petrosian His Life and Games' by Vik Vasiliev but (for me) an advantage this one has over Vasiliev's is that the games are in algebraic notation .. I can read descriptive notation but I find algebraic a lot smoother to follow. Vasiliev's does have the games in algebraic also but as an appendix at the back where they are without the annotations.

Anyway just thought I'd share 🙂👍🏻

Will mainly be blogging about Tigran (V.) Petrosian, World Champion 1963-69, as I learn more about him.
