How to get to 800 in rapid (if you haven't already)
Getting to 800 Rapid on chess.com (or similar platforms) is a common early milestone for new players. If you're stuck below that, here’s how to get over the hump:
1. Play Slower & Think More
Stop blitzing through your rapid games. Use your time. Always ask yourself:
What does my opponent threaten?
What happens if I make this move?
2. Focus on One Opening
Stick to one opening for white and one for black. Learn the first 5–10 moves well. Example:
White: London System
Black: Italian Defense (vs 1.e4), Queen’s Gambit Declined (vs 1.d4)
(p.s. you don't have to pick these openings)
3. Cut Out Blunders
Use the blunder check method:
Before every move, ask: “Is this hanging a piece? Am I walking into a fork?”
Even one blunder can throw a won position.
4. Analyze Your Games
After every match, click “Game Review.”
Find why you lost, not just what move was bad. Learn from your own mistakes more than anyone else’s.
5. Do Daily Puzzles
5 puzzles a day keeps 600 away.
Try to understand the tactic, not just guess. Themes like forks, pins, and back-ranks show up in real games.
6. Play Bots Around Your Rating
Use the bots to practice — no pressure, but still serious. Try not to blunder, and experiment with openings.
Final Tip:
800 is NOT hard, but you have to play with intention. Cut out big mistakes, play slow, and focus on consistency.
Good luck on the climb.
