Between Sun and Shadow–part IV
Here is part IV, hope you enjoy!

Fletcher dropped down on a beanbag in Maya's room, head pounding.
The donkey that Jax summoned from his backwards fire sprite spell wasn't a ordinary donkey.
When the donkey laughed, everyone in the classroom started convulsing. Violently.
It took ten minutes to get it to shut up.
And now it was loose on the Academy grounds.
Maya was perched on the edge of her bed’s footboard, waiting for Silas to answer her text. The three of them were supposed to be meeting at the western training grounds, but of course the moment class was over Silas was nowhere to be found.
Her phone chimed, and her eyes darted back to the screen. “He says he’ll meet us there. Let’s go.”
Maya had gotten Silas’s number from the principal–which should have probably been against the rules. She definitely didn’t care.
Fletcher nodded, standing up as his eye last roamed over Maya’s room before he walked out. It was mostly empty, but unlike Fletchers room, she had a few things of her own she’d brought. There was a cork board on an otherwise blank wall opposite of her bed, with various pictures and papers pinned on it–most with Zara.
She had a cherrywood armoire, a small desk in the corner with a lilac colored lamp on it, a small bookshelf, a nightstand, and the three brightly colored beanbags strewn across the floor. Simple, but more than Fletcher had.
Somewhere in the halls, a donkey laughed.

Silas wasn’t at the training grounds when Maya and Fletcher arrived. But Master Krongoff was–as nervous as ever. He tried clearing his throat, and launched into a coughing fit instead.
”Excuse me. Where was I again… wait, last names?”
Fletcher wasn’t really listening, taking in the training area. Unlike the east one where they had been assigned groups where it was all grass and mint, this one was a large rectangle of packed dirt. The woods bordered one side, the other sides met by stretches of lawn. The wind chilled Fletchers bones, tossing his slightly too long blonde hair around.
Maya answered for the both of them. “Ashbourne and Hawthorne.”
Master Krongoff nodded quickly. “Right. Right. I–“
Krongoff stopped short, a dark blur coming to a stop a few feet away from him. He dropped his clipboard.
”Virek! How, uh, how nice of you to join us!”
Silas gave him a long, flat stare. “I’m part of this group.”
Krongoff’s eyes widened, before scanning his clipboard frantically. “Right! I was aware of that. I was just saying it’s… uh, still, you know–“
”No. I don’t know.” Silas snapped impatiently. Krongoff blinked. Then cleared his throat. “Right. You know what, I think I left some of the things we need for… training. I left it in the cellar. I’ll… be right back!”
He scrambled off for the Academy, Silas’s searing gaze following him the whole way. Fletcher broke the silence first.
”He’s not coming back, is he?”
”Nope.” Maya said at the same time as Silas said “Training things in the cellar? He needs a new brain.”
Silas exhaled sharply, his gaze dragging between Fletcher and Maya. “Well, if I’m really going to be spending the next five weeks dealing with you two, we may as well get understanding of each others abilities." He paused. "You first, Hawthorne."
Fletcher blinked, bringing his attention back to the present. "Right. Ok. What am I doing?" Silas rolled his eyes. "You are demonstrating your powers. You know, the magical abilities you inherited at birth?" Fletcher tried ignoring the heat that swirled in his cheeks. "I know what powers are. But why don't you start, Nycteri, since you suggested it?"
Silas shot him a cold glare. "Fine. Or you could just ask Ms. Know-it-all over there, who seems to know everything about Nycteri."
Fletcher looked over at Maya, who spared them a lazy glance. She was laying across the length of a bench, picking the petals off a rose from one of the bushes at the edge of the woods. "I knew a Nycteri. So I do know a lot about Nycteri."
Silas opened his mouth to make a smart remark–
BANG!
"See, Sparky? I told you it would work!"
"I have to say, recruit, that is quite a impressive powder you've got there."
A cloud of blue dust covered the training grounds.
Wait.
Cobalt blue dust.
When it finally cleared, Cobalt was proudly standing in the middle of the training grounds.
With the blue orb floating beside her.
She beamed. "Everybody–meet Sparky. He's starting a Arcnum Academy news channel, on SparkyVision productions! And I–" She flashed a shiny electric blue pin on her shirt, "am his assistant recorder and editor!"
Everyone stared. Fletcher coughed blue dust. "And the dust is...?"
Cobalt beamed even brighter. "My special insta-travel dust!" She shook a small bottle of cobalt blue dust in her fist. "Instantly travel anywhere you have previously been! I haven't tried it off of the Academy grounds, but I think it would work!"
Nobody moved or said anything.
Sparky beeped. "This recording will be perfect for the first episode on SparkyVision!"
Silas held up a hand. "Wait. You're recording people without their permission?"
Sparky did a smug twirl in the air. "I got the principal to sign a paper that says that whoever is on the Academy grounds is subject to being recorded and posted on my channel, outside of the bathrooms and dorm rooms."
Cobalt fished another bottle out of her bag–this one deep purple. "We used some of Maya's possession powder. It works really well, by the way Maya!"
Fletcher turned to look at Maya. She was still reclined on the bench, picking petals off another rose. "Possession powder?"
Maya glanced at him. "She stole it from my room. It was a experiment."
Cobalt grinned wickedly, throwing a handful of blue powder in the air. "Goodbye, my subjects!"
Nobody said anything while the dust settled. When it finally did again, Silas sighed and ran a hand through his ink-black hair. "I vote we call it quits today."
Maya raised her hand from her place on the bench. "I second that."
Fletcher watched the stray bits of blue dust twirl through the air. "I third that. But do we really have to walk all the way back to the Academy?"

Cobalt character belongs to @KawaiiChocoChan54
Before anyone yells at me for not including their character, chill out. I have plots. And I have to establish my main characters.
I could use a couple more orbs... anyone wanna make some up? A pink airhead one named Bubbles could be cute...
