Between Sun and Shadow Part Six (I think I used the correct Roman numeral in the title)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
”CANNONBALL!”
”BUBBLES, NOT IN THE OATMEAL!”
Breakfast at the academy was, needless to say, chaos.
Really, every second in the academy was chaos.
The sound of clattering and chatting filled the room. It smelled like pancake syrup, eggs, and something burnt that definitely wasn’t food.
Maya glared at the sheet in front of her–on “runes for psychological alterations”, which it was definitely to early for.
”Really, Zar? Did you even try from question 3 onwards?”
Zara shrugged, mumbling around her doughnut. “I knew you would try for me.”
Jax snorted, elbowing Fletcher in the forearm. "Maya does half of Zara's homework. Zara cares for nothing but fire-related lessons."
Both Zara and Fletcher's groups had sat at the same table–except for Silas. Nobody had figured out where he was at mealtimes yet.
Zara shrugged, wiping her mouth on her blue long sleeve. "Lessons should be more geared to affinities."
Fletcher's eyebrows drew together slightly. "What's all of your guy's affinities, anyways?"
Zara pointed to herself. "Fire." She pointed to Jax. "Electricity. Unfortunately." She pointed to Taiji next. "Light and dark." Iris next. "Nature." Zara drew her hand back, resting her chin in her palm. "What's yours?" Fletcher bit his lip. "It's... supposed to be water." Maya looked up from the finished paper. Zara frowned. "Supposed to be? So it isn't?" Fletcher shook his head. "No... well, I was supposed to have a water affinity like the rest of my family. But... it just doesn't work for me."
Maya shrugged. "It might still come. Or maybe it is something else entirely."
Fletcher shrugged, suddenly having lost his appetite. He didn't want his affinity to be something else from the rest of his family. It wasn't supposed to be different from everyone else’s.
Taiji suddenly glared at Zara. “What did you say my affinity was?”
Everyone stared at him. Zara held up her pointer finger. “One, that was like five minutes ago.” She continued counting on her fingers. “Two, I said dark and light magic. Three, is that incorrect?”
Taiji shrugged. “No. That’s right.”
BANG!
Maya sighed and set the pencil down that she was, for some reason, still holding.
”Cobalt. We talked about your teleportation dust in the cafeteria.”
Cobalt stood at the end of the group’s table, beaming. Bubbles hovered over her shoulder. “Yes we did, Maya. Me and Bubbles also talked about it, which neutralized the affects of your conversation.”
Taiji looked at his watch. “Class is starting in five minutes!”
He grabbed his bag, half jogging out of the cafeteria. Zara blinked. “Did he even have a watch on his wrist?”
Iris dropped her face in her hands, elbows in the table. “No. No he did not.”
Jax poked the tray sitting at the spot Taiji had been seconds ago. “He left his tray, too.”
Cobalt clapped her hands. “Besides the point. Since you all are going on your little mock apprentice thing tomorrow–which, for the record, I am very jealous of–I’m giving you all SparkyVision camrecorders.”
Jax raised his hand. “Is that a word?”
Cobalt smiled brightly, hands on her hips. “It is now.”
Bubbles made a weird noise.
”Cobalt, can I cannonball in the oatmeal now?”
”Sure, why not?”
