Hi guys, I am Avayukt30. This is my first blog ever on chess.com. In this article/blog, I will be sharing the 3 phrases of chess every beginner should know. And for that, you need to learn chess notation. So I would suggest you to watch this video first for chess notation, and then read this article. The video name is here "Learn Chess Notation - The Language of Chess! How to Read & Write Chess Moves! Basics for Beginners" (channel name is 'Chess Talk'). So anyway, the 3 phrases of chess are the opening, middlegame and endgame. Opening is where you bring out your pawns in the center of the board, the knights towards the middle, and the bishops in the middle. For example:

The squares which I have highlighted in red are the center squares which you must occupy! It is important to occupy it because it can control the most amount of squares than putting your pawns and pieces on the side of the board. For example, white is controlled the center e5 square. If black plays a6, it doesn't make sense as it doesn't control any center squares and occupies 1 square.

Whereas, white's center pawn controls 2 squares. So that's why, occupying the center is important. And that's what openings are about! For example:

Both white and black control the center. Now, we bring our knight to c3 and f3 (for white) and black c6 and f6 respectively. There are some exceptions, but the knights on those squares control important central squares and pawns.

Now, the next step is to bring our bishops.

It involves bringing two pawns in the center if the opponent allows on the 2nd move or anywhere in the opening. It also involves NOT bringing the queen out to squares where they can be attacked by opponent's pieces, and gain time and development. That term is known as "Tempo". And in this position, both players will bring out their other knight and bishop, and castle to bring the king to safety. Once everybody developed their pieces and some pieces have been traded/exchanged, then we have a middlegame. And example of a middlegame can be the following:

There are different types of openings and this is one of them. But anyways, if you look at the last move, the position is a middlegame where some pieces (including the queen) have been traded and there are some pieces, and the players fight till the end stage of the game called "Endgame". There are many types of endgames such as Queen and King v/s King, Rook and King v/s King, Rook and Queen and King v/s King, 1-8 pawns and King v/s King, 1-8 pawns and King vs 1-8 pawns and King, Rook and King v/s Rook and King, Knight and Bishop and King v/s King etc etc etc.
So, that was the end of my blog. Plz tell in the comments for the feedback for this that how did you like it, and I will be creating more blogs like these. I wanted to start from the beginner level, then I will increase the level. You can send me a friend request if you want, share this article to your other friends and people so that they can also learn it. Thank you very much and I'll see you in the next blog! Bye!
