How to calculate advantage?
Hi guys, welcome to my blog! In this blog, I will go on to intermediate and advanced concept. Let's get straight to it!
The way we calculate who is better or who is winning depends on 4 factors:
1. Material
2. King safety
3. Space
4. Pieces nature
So we check from order. We first check the material. Then we check whose king is safer and weaker. Then we check the space. Space is the amount of squares you control on your opponent's side of the board. And then we check the nature of the pieces, which means we check whose pieces are better. For example:
https://www.chess.com/game/daily/382676835 If you check this game which I played, on move 17.h4, how to calculate who is better? We first check the material. The material is equal, so we move on to the 2nd criteria which is the king safety. My king is safer than black's because I have an open rook and the queen pressuring the g-file against the king, whereas my king is totally safe with 0% pressure and attack. So I am better in this criteria. Then we check the space. I control 14 squares (g5 square by the h4 pawn, e5 and g5 squares by the f3 knight, b5 and d5 squares by the c3 knight, g5, g6, e5 and d6 squares by the queen, b5 and a6 squares by the bishop and the 4 central squares by the 2 central pawns), whereas black controls 5 squares (h4 square by the rook, g4 and e4 squares by the f6 knight and b4 and d4 squares by the c6 knight). So again, I am better in this criteria. Then we check the pieces. The knight are equally positioned and playing. The a8 rook v/s d1 rook, a8 rook is sleeping whereas my d1 rook defends the center. the g1 rook points the king on the g-file, whereas the h5 rook is pressuring nothing. And the queens, my queen is pointing the king on the g-file, whereas black's queen is sleeping. So I am better in 3-0 criterias, therefore I am better. If the number of criterias between black and white are nothing, or the quantity is same, then the position is equal.
