What are gambits??
Hi guys, welcome to my blog! I had fever since yesterday and I still have. That's why I couldn't create a blog yesterday. But, I am feeling way better than yesterday though I have fever. I guess by today or tomorrow, it will be healed easily with the way I am feeling.
Anyways, let's move on to today's blog. It is about gambits. In openings, it can be standard and simple. But, to throw your opponents off and make them uncomfortable, we can use gambits in openings. So what are gambits? When we sacrifice material such as a pawn or two for good lead in development, gaining more center control or center space ("Space" is the amount of squares you can control on your opponent's side of the board) etc, they are known as gambits. REMEMBER, SACRIFICING MATERIAL FOR GOOD THINGS SUCH AS CHECKMATE, OR WINNING MATERIAL IN MIDDLEGAMES AND ENDGAMES ARE NOT CALLED GAMBITS. AS I MENTIONED IN THE INTRO, "GAMBITS" ARE SAID IN OPENINGS ONLY. There are different types of gambits which also contain traps if not learnt. In my future blogs, I will be creating types of gambits. But in this blog, I wanted to tell the definition of blogs and the names. So the few frequent played gambits are:
1. Queen's gambit
2. King's gambit
3. Danish gambit
4. Blackmar-diemer gambit
5. Portuguese gambit
6. Godley gambit
7. Vampire gambit
There are thousands of gambits in chess, which I will be covering after beginner blogs.
So, that's it for my blog. Stay safe and do let me know the feedback in the comments. I worked hard to make this. Thank you very much and we'll see you in the next blog! Bye!
