My Chess Books Vol - 4: Mastering the Chess Openings by John Grefe
My fourth purchase was this very slim volume by International Master John Grefe. I largely disagree with the poor reviews given to this book, I find it written in a much more accessible tone that is useful for a player that wants to learn about main lines of the classic openings without too much time spent on theory. Grefe simply presents the reader with solid mainline strategies while at the same time introducing variations made famous by the likes Smyslov, Najdorf and many others. This volume cost me $8.00 and I would recommend it for its ease of instruction and straight forward ability to showcase complex opening ideas.
