
My Account Got Hacked??!
As I woke up from a nap at 2P.M a couple of days ago, I was greeted with an email from chess.com.
The subject line read "Email Address Change Request" at noon, to which I was indeed very curious - unless I had sleepwalked to my computer and requested an email change, I couldn't have changed my email. Reading through the email, I found that the request was from Bangladesh. So, I must have boarded an airplane while sleeping and landed in Bangladesh while requesting an email change... or there was malicious access?!
I decided to believe the latter.
Breathing heavily, I ran to my computer and tried to log in to my chess.com account. However, in red the words "login failed" made my heart sink.
After getting a friend to check my profile, it turned out that the name and location had changed, but not my bio. In addition, three Blitz games were played, all of which I certainly took no part in. I quickly emailed Chess.com Support, the most powerful army since the Spartans in 5th century Ancient Greece, about the issue. In the meantime, I reminisced about the good times I had with my account:
