The Disappearing Achievements
As I have said in a previous blog, the one thing that keeps me coming back to Chess.com aside from the many ways to grow and improve my game is the thrill of gaining achievements. I was very pleased to see that new achievements have been added in relation to the league play but and this is a giant oversized King Kong but, I was far less than pleased to see that my achievement count had dropped from over a hundred to ninety six.
After going through the badges on display I soon realized that the main drop in my count came from the removal of my Christmas bot victory badges. Now I am sure somewhere on this site there was a heads up or that someone has mentioned this however it is news to me. Very, Very bad news.
A little Backstory to my obsession with collecting Chess.com Achievement badges is that during my time as a scout some three and a half decades ago I never really applied myself, now I look at the very empty scout sash my Mom kept and wonder why I didn't get a heap load of them, like so many that they would have had to give me a double wide sash.
So when I joined Chess.com with the intention of relearning how to play after not moving a piece on a board in thirty years I was super pleased to find an achievement section. I read every bit of info on what it was and how to gain badges. After a year and a half I have come to terms with the fact that there are certain ones that will likely never be gained (check mate in 10 moves, man vs machine, over 100 moves) but it's going to take sometime for me to come to grasp with the fact the badges I've earned can be ghosted at anytime.
Hopefully writing all this out will be the first step of me not getting so invested in the achievements and being able to see them for what they are, a way to have fun with my Chess.com experience instead of a way to make up for all those empty spots on my dusty old scouts sash.
Just a quick merch idea though, why not sell physical patches of the achievement badges?
I already have a place to put them and everything.
---UPDATE---
As @Fire had mentioned in the comments the Christmas badges disappearing was a glitch, it has been fixed and the gained achievements once again show on my wall.
