Two Incredible Games In The 2013 World Championship

The story of the 2013 World Chess Championship in India is an amazing one. In these games, Magnus Carlsen defeated Vishy Anand to become a Norwegian hero, and the second youngest champion ever, behind Garry Kasparov.

Games 5 and 6 were very important to decide who the series went to. After 4 games, it was even, with four draws. Game five, however, swung Carlsen ahead of Anand.

Anand says that this one was a major blow. A twenty two year old was beating him halfway through the World Championship. He tried to tell himself, everybody has bad days, but he just didn't play on point for the rest of the series and Carlsen's confidence continued to rise, especially after game six. Chess very much depends on your mindset, and game six is a good example.
These are arguably the most clutch two games in Magnus Carlsen's life. Going up against the defending world champion, and performing like this is unbelievable. Magnus didn't lose one game, and became the World Chess Champion.
A lot of the information in this post came from an amazing documentary on the Magnus's road to world champion. I would highly recommend that all chess lovers watch it. Here is the trailer.
