The Third Atomic Variant
Hello once again. It is with great surprise and excitement that I introduce you to yet another new Atomic variant. This is something that I once thought would not even be possible: to have not one, not two, but three variants using Atomic on the server. Well, here we are.
The variant in question is Torpedoes in a Lake, and its concept is actually quite interesting when you really look into it. In simple terms, you essentially get to blow up a lake (lol). It is mainly inspired from the variant The Lake, which emphasizes the concept of a duck being in a lake (a sea of dead blue pieces that resembles water).
If you combine a lake with a few elements of my favorite variant (IYKYK), change the pieces a bit, and add an extra gamerule or two, you might get something that resembles this variant. However, only the unique creative touch of this variant’s creator could make it feel truly unique.
What makes this variant unique is that it combines Atomic and Duck, two seemingly contrary gamerules, and somehow results in a strange but nevertheless adequate level of balance, complexity, and creativity.
Of course, it is by no means a particularly simple variant, involving various Atomic tactics and positional Duck concepts. In fact, this variant achieves a similar (and perhaps greater) level of complexity compared to other Atomic variants. It still maintains many traits of a typical Atomic variant: it’s precise, it’s faster-paced than variants with other gamerules, blunders can have very extreme consequences, etc.
In any case, it’s a cool variant to try out if you ever wondered what an explosive lake would look like. Haven’t we all thought about something like that?
