When Your King Gets Cornered…

Hello there! I am pleased to be writing about the newest variant on the server: Cornered! Upon examining the position, one thing is very obvious: your royal King is completely trapped! But wait… so is the opponent’s king. What’s going on here?

The main idea of this variant is to promote one of your pawns to either a Rook or a General (a piece that moves like a Knight and a King combined). Both have their uses, but the more obvious one is the Rook, that can conveniently laser the enemy king in its narrow tunnel. Alternatively, another interesting idea is to try and attack a defender of the hill — to force it to move, potentially giving you a shot at reaching the hill. 

The pieces are relatively simple, so it is pretty easy to learn and understand. Regardless, the variant has quite a bit of strategy — so never let your guard down. Go check it out!
