Do you know the scholar's mate? I bet you know it, you also must know it. Scholar's mate is the second fastest checkmate in chess, the fastest being the fool's mate. If white uses the scholar's mate trick, and failed, black would be in a better position. Because black wins a tempo by threatening white's queen, and white has to waste a move by moving the queen back. Let me show you an example of how a scholar's mate works.

That is how it work, and the scholar's mate opening is called the Wayward Queen Attack. Now I will give you a challenge, solve a puzzle. In order to solve the puzzle you need to find the bast moves for black to prevent the scholar's mate and take advantage of white's vulnerable queen.

Solve it? after the puzzle was solved black has a better position.

Scholar's mate or the Wayward Queen Attack opening it's almost never seen in master level game, even in intermadiate level game there are not many scholar's mate game or attempt. But there are many players playing the Wayward Queen Attack in the begginer level, even some beginners fell into the trap. Guess what, I found a video that show an IM attemp to do scholar's mate against Magnus Carlsen.

But of course the IM failed to deliver mate with the scholar's mate.

I hope you know how to fight the scholar's mate, this is also on of the proof why whe should not bring our queen out early. Thanks for reading, see you later my readers!
