WGM Lu Miaoyi recently won the Women's Section of the 2024 Chinese Chess Championship. She was the top seed and the only player rated above 2400. Interestingly, Lu's mother, WGM Xu Yuanyuan, had won the same title in 2003.
In the Open Section, Grandmaster Wang Yue claimed victory for the third time in his career. Some of China's strongest players were notably absent but Wang's triumphant finish remains impressive.
Both Lu and Wang are now qualified to represent China at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Hungary, scheduled for September. The Championships were hosted in Xinghua with a total prize fund of 500,000 yuan ($69,000).

The Casablanca Chess tournament will start today at 16:15 and 11:15 EST
