Practice the Morphy's Mate!
Morphy's Mate is basically a checkmate performed by two pieces, usually a bishop and rook (either one can be replaced by a queen, with the rook limiting a rank from the king, and the bishop delivering checkmate. The king is usually in a corner for this mate so that the king's escape squares are further minimized before the checkmate. Here is an example of the Morphy's Mate.
As you can see, the rook limits the king to the edge of the board by not letting it go to the file next to it, and Black's pawn is not allowing the Black king to go up the board, and when the bishop comes, the king has no where to escape to.
