My Journey with the Jerome
Hello all! Today's post is about the Jerome Gambit.
For those of you who don't know, this is the Jerome Gambit:
It usually goes something like this:
The shocking move of the Jerome Gambit, Bxf7!?, is considered a book move, even though the computer evaluation shows (around) -3. I recently discovered the Jerome Gambit through the Twitch community, and after a bit of research, I decided to try the gambit myself.
So, I played a few blitz games hoping for a Giuoco Piano Game. I expected at least a couple of losses. However, to my surprise, I did quite well with the Jerome Gambit. Here is my first game.
I got a very nice and clean win, even though my victory mainly happened because of my opponent's mistakes and blunders. With a win from my first Jerome game, I was determined to play the gambit again. Here is my second game:
In this game, my opponent made quite a few blunders and mistakes, giving me a quick victory. I was beginning to think the Jerome Gambit comes with a lot of good luck. The position the gambit creates is not exceedingly good in my opinion, but I was very lucky whenever I played it. I decided to test this theory by playing another Jerome game. I got the chance to play it twice 3 days later. Here were the games:
Again, I won even though I was making several mistakes and tons of inaccurate moves.
Finally, my winning streak with the Jerome ended. In this game, I was completely outplayed, and my "Jerome Luck" had run out.

I did win another game with the Jerome Gambit after that (https://www.chess.com/live/game/5002679999), but my journey with the Jerome came to an end. I decided to go back to playing my usual Giuoco Piano repertoire, the Evans Gambit.
Hope you guys enjoyed this post, and please do try out the Jerome Gambit yourselves if you haven't already.
***I posted this game for my blog... if you (my opponent in this game) have an issue with me posting this, please PM (private message) me and I will fix/delete this post in your favour.
