
Ruy Lopez - Part 9
Bird was a practicing accountant first and formost but played chess at at an astonishingly high level, gaining the attention of the chess world. His playing style was unorthodox as though he loved to challenge conventional theory in search of a stunning novelty. He suceeded in this endeavor and left his footprints in chess history with 2 openings, Bird's Opening with 1.f4 and Bird's Defense to the Ruy Lopez. Bird was never scared as it has been said he "lived for chess, and would play anybody anywhere, any time, under any conditions." With that, let's take a look at Bird's Defense to the Ruy Lopez:
