The "First Pillar" of Opening Preparation

Several players have reached out to me in the past few weeks to get access to my EXCLUSIVE training on building a Master-Level Opening Repertoire.

(If you haven't, it's still not too late! Click HERE and let me know, and I'll send you the video. This is the only way to access it - it's not available publicly!)

In this training, I break down the "3 Pillars" of building an opening repertoire, and the most important of these pillars surprised a lot of people.

Can you think of what it might be?

(Hint: It's not a photographic memory - this is more important than memorization skills!)

...

It's Organization!

Let's break this down. Many players have a few opening lines they're really experienced in. They'll prepare their favorite line against the Najdorf Sicilian 25 moves in, study all the branches, and play training games to cement the ideas in their head.

This is great. But it doesn't lead to a complete opening repertoire. Most players all the way up to Master level and beyond have enormous gaps in their opening knowledge. They'll show excellent gameplay within their favorite openings...but in the other 75% of their chess games, they're "out of book" on move 9 and left to wonder how to play an unfamiliar middlegame.

Let's be clear - the tactics we can use to improve our openings are no secret. You can:

  • Read opening books, or watch opening videos, DVDs, or online courses
  • Quiz yourself over the key lines
  • Play training games against a computer and analyze them
  • Deeply study the possible pawn structures that arise from the opening in question
  • Play blitz games within the opening to "get your volume in," and analyze the branching points

But if you're stuck jumping from tactic to tactic, instead of following a SYSTEM to build a thorough, ambitious, and deep understanding of EVERY opening you play, you won't succeed in developing a Master-Level Opening Repertoire.

I have an exclusive training video for you that covers this subject matter in more depth. Previously, this sort of training was only available for my private students...but if you're serious about developing your Opening Repertoire (which involves hard work!), then I want to help you.
