Happy Birthday to Julian Hodgson

Julian was born on July 25, 1963 in London. He earned the Grandmaster title 1988 and won the British Championship in 1991, 1992, 1999 and 2000. He has not played competitive chess since 2003.

He is known for reviving the Trompowsky Attack (1. d4 Nf6 2. Bg5) an opening that had not been played much for several years prior Hodgson playing it. Additionally, the opening 1.d4 d5 2. Bg5 is sometimes called the Hodgson Attack. He has written several books, including at least one on the Trompowsky.
