Eye Juice can be Messy

Here we go… tempus fugit… time waits for no man.  We’ve hardly had a chance to whine and kvetch over our last dismal failure.  But, you all know, I am not one to live in the past… nor the future.  I live for today. So, bring it on!

This week 5 match with the Philadelpia Inventors is crucial to the Blitz season.  I think it is safe to say that a win is the only cure for the Blitz woes.  At (1 – 3) there is no more wiggle room.  We’ve got to start that long, long climb back to the top.  That said, Guys… Let’s rip their eyes out… figuratively of course… no one wants eye juice all over their fingers… makes it hard to move the pieces.

Monday 7:10 pm. Lineup

        White                                               Black

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GM Perelshteyn (BOS)                      GM Erenburg (PHI

SM Fisher (PHI)                                 FM Gulamali (BOS)

NM Vilenchuk (BOS)                          FM Gorman (PHI)

NM Daly (PHI)                                    NM Krasik (BOS)

GM Eugene Perelshteyn (BOS) vs GM Sergey Erenburg (PHI) - Board 1

These two have met before, back in week 7, 2011, when Eugene had the better side of a draw with 1.d4 d5.  I say 1.c4… to maybe get to a better version of the same semi-slav.  Although GM Erenburg did have the two Bishops in their first encounter… and we know how Eugene feels about that.  Boston (0.5 – 0.5)

SM William Fisher (PHI) vs FM Kazim Gulamali (BOS) – Board 2

Looks like Kazim has a rising star on his hands.  SM Fisher, from what I can tell, plays 1.d4… against strong opponents.  And Kazim plays many different replies… but, maybe 1.d4 d5 here as he is unsure just how good this guy is.  Boston (1 – 1)

NM Michael Vilenchuk (BOS) vs FM Dov Gorman (PHI) – Board 3

Misha is aching to make up for his last appearance… and I predict a win here in this crucial game… boy do we need it.  I smell an angry open Sicilian here.  Boston (2 – 1)

NM Troy Daly (PHI) vs NM Ilya Krasik – Board 4

This will be a Sicilian… and I am predicting a shocker… Morra Gambit.  Ilya has shown a preference for 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd 3.c3 Nf6  and I suspect some home prep from these inventive players.  Watch out Ilya… maybe  3… dxc this time?  I promise you a win…

Boston (3 – 1)

There you have it… a close, edgy match that could go either way right up until Ilya gouges his opponents eye out… provided he has no gooey fingered mouse slip afterwards.

See you there, Harvard SOCH hall, 59 Shepherd st. Cambridge, MA.  Now, remember, it’s Monday 7:10 pm.  Not Wednesday… Monday!  And bring some towels, this could get messy.
