Smushed! Applesauce Ovah Blitz (1.5 - 2.5)

Can you think of anything smushier than Applesauce?... I can't.  And to get squashed... and ground into smushiness by the Manhattan Applesauce is... well... just... just.. Smushiniferously embarassing.  But, that's just what the Blitz did... get themselves smushed.  Oh the ignominy... Latin for the tummy ache you get from eating too much applesauce.

Really, now we're in such a hole... and looking way up at the league leaders.  Here's how it happened.

Steven, on Board 1 with White, had a nice peaceful game... easy draw... with IM Ostrovskiy... But, he was White!... and faced the Caro-Kann!  We really needed more from the White pieces in this match... and the Caro-Kann... Isn't that refuted?... Let's take a look.

A decent game by both players... And you really can't blame Steven for keeping things under control.

Boston (0.5 - 0.5)

Hey, a drawn match keeps us in the thick of things.  But, our next man up/down... really put the pressure on the team... as last Week's hero, became this week's goat... such is the life of a Chess player.  They only love ya, if ya keep winning... as o'l Bobby used to say.  Yes, on Board 3, Chris went down with a thud.

And I thought the Schliemann was refuted... shows what I know.

Still, we had a chance if only our team manager could survive an even quirkier opening... the Trompowsky?? Isn't this attack refuted?... Geeezz!  Chess is harder than I thought.

Well, it just wasn't Ilya's day.

Now, with two down and the match over... I watched Denys cruise to an exchange down win.  Go figure.

Proving once again that the Ruy Lopez is not refuted... for either side.

Anyway, let's not cry over spilt variations.  We just gotta study up on our refutations.   Next up, The Arizona Scorpions.
